Konda Srinivasa Rao is a contemporary Indian artist whose remarkable journey from auto-rickshaw driver to painter reflects resilience and creativity. Entirely self-taught, he has become a prominent figure in Hyderabad’s art scene, recognized for his distinctive approach to abstract and semi-abstract landscapes.
Rao describes his style as “semi-abstracts,” offering viewers familiar forms as entry points into textured, layered compositions. His canvases, painted in bold strokes and enriched with varied surfaces, combine atmospheric beauty with emotional depth. Acrylic on canvas remains his primary medium, allowing him to explore color and texture with striking clarity.
Much of his inspiration arises from lived experience and travel. His 2014 solo exhibition, Auto! Chalte Kya, paid homage to his decade-long career as a driver, transforming everyday encounters into artistic expression. More recently, his landscapes emphasize the picturesque qualities of nature, capturing its moods with vibrancy and sensitivity.
Rao’s career includes solo shows such as Vision (2008), Symphony (2011), and Memories of Another Day (2012), alongside participation in over fifty group exhibitions across India. In 2025, his expressive landscapes were showcased at the Hyderabad Metro Art Fest, affirming his continued relevance.
